The Lighthouse City Lord's Plans (3)

Following the direction Nan pointed, Charles soon saw:
The ruins below were teeming with thousands of Devourers, prowling back and forth. Some anxiously circled around on the ground; others had climbed onto the rooftops or peered out from windows in the taller buildings nearby, as if searching for a high enough spot to use as a springboard.
But the Lighthouse was two or three hundred meters above the ground—strictly speaking, a little over two hundred. The buildings around it were at most a few dozen meters tall, and the gaps between them were too wide. There was no way the Devourers could jump up.
So aside from occasionally throwing their heads back to roar in anger and frustration, their voices sometimes reaching the Lighthouse as if to threaten it, there was nothing they could do.
"Hmph!"
Though Charles was secretly alarmed by the number of Devourers, the thought that they couldn't reach the Lighthouse made him give a smug snort. He kept his expression composed.
"What else is there to do?"
"You can see for yourself. The lowest point of the Lighthouse is currently more than two hundred meters above the ground, and the emergency suspension system is working. It won't fall anytime soon."
"They can't fly. What can they do besides bark helplessly down there?"
"They're no threat!"
He waved his hand dismissively, making it clear that he wasn't concerned in the slightest about the threat posed by the Devourers below.
After all, it had been several days. If those Devourers could jump up here, they would have done so already. They wouldn't have waited until now!
And in Charles's view, as long as the Devourers couldn't get up, it made no difference whether the Lighthouse was two or three hundred meters
