Each swarm contained anywhere from dozens to hundreds of individuals. They came surging in from every direction along the horizon, washing over the wasteland like a black tide as they rushed toward a tiny camp in the depths of the central wasteland.

Their forms were bizarre and varied, with hardly any two alike.
Some looked like patchwork abominations twisted from flesh and metal, their eight legs carving deep furrows through the scorched earth.
