Jian Jiu Engages, Watch the Grand Show Three-foot Green Edge Slices the Scruffy Fire Turkey
Jian Jiu Takes the Challenge—Watch the Show: Three-foot Green Edge Slays Scruffy Fire Turkey
These days, business at the Imperial City Soul Fighting Arena had been rather bleak.
The root cause was simple.
An outsider had swept through the entire Soul Fighting Arena.
The spectators were certainly bloodthirsty and loved brutal, fist-to-fist brawls.
But as people of Heaven Dou City, they still held a certain local pride in their hearts.
The grand Imperial City had been beaten so badly by an outsider that it could not lift its head. How could anyone feel good about that?
Until this day...
The air inside the Soul Fighting Arena was thick with the smell of blood.
A figure entered, dressed in a spotless white robe, standing tall and straight.
It was as though some invisible switch had been flipped.
Centered around the white-robed figure, the noisy, boiling Soul Fighting Arena gradually fell into a strange silence.
When that distinctive white robe and Faceless Man mask came into view, the spectators' eyes abruptly widened.
Then, an even more fervent wave of uproar exploded.
"Jian... Jian Jiu?! It's Jian Jiu! He finally came!"
"Great! Is Jian Jiu going to accept that Fat Fire Turkey's challenge?!"
"Where are those idiots who said Jian Jiu was too scared to fight and ran away? Get the hell out here!"
"One sword! Just one sword! Jian Jiu, take him down with one sword like before!"
The frenzied shouts crashed over him like a tide.
Beneath the Faceless Man mask, Li Zhexian's eyes were as cold as blades.
Mm.
Jian Jiu was a cold and indifferent swordsman.
Only loneliness could highlight the bearing of a master swordsman.
Ye Lingling followed close behind Li Zhexian.
Thunderous roars filled her ears.
Her blue eyes flickered slightly.
The scene truly startled her.
The Imperial Dou Team was also quite famous in the Soul Fighting Arena, but compared to Jian Jiu before her, they were utterly overshadowed.
Watching the tall, aloof back of the youth ahead, Ye Lingling blinked.
Perhaps...
The cold and indifferent Jian Jiu at this moment
was the real Li Zhexian?
It seemed she understood him a little more deeply now.
The two entered the VIP Box one after the other.
The heavy doors closed, shutting out the clamor beyond.
Li Zhexian casually removed his mask, twirled it around his fingertip, then lazily sank into the sofa and tossed a plum from the table into his mouth.
"Tsk, pretending to be an expert is even more tiring than having a fight."
"Mmm, the plums at this Soul Fighting Arena are really sweet."
Ye Lingling: "..."
Fine, she admitted that she still had a long way to go.
Li Zhexian's temperament was simply far too freewheeling.
With Jian Jiu's reputation, there were naturally people specifically assigned to arrange his Soul Fighting matches.
The time was set for eight tomorrow night.
It was still early when they left the Soul Fighting Arena.
Li Zhexian decided to stroll around for a while.
He turned to look at Ye Lingling, who was following closely behind him, and said helplessly, "Hey, I'm going to eat. Are you still coming with me?"
Ye Lingling lightly shook the fragrant pouch at her waist, the gold coins inside jingling.
"I have money. I'll treat you."
"I know the Ye Family is wealthy."
Li Zhexian sighed and shook his head.
"Fine. If you want to follow me, then follow."
He was not worried about being exposed.
Jian Jiu was quite famous in the Imperial City, yet no one had ever seen his True Appearance beneath the mask.
And although Ye Lingling was veiled in black gauze, her blue hair was somewhat conspicuous, strange hair colors were not uncommon here on the Douluo Continent.
They wandered about, taking in the sights.
Having been cooped up in the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Eye for some time, Li Zhexian was in high spirits. He strolled from afternoon until dusk.
In the end, he stopped at a street-side noodle shop.
"One bowl of soup noodles, one plate of side dishes, and... two cloves of garlic."
Ye Lingling said, "The same as him."
"Alright, please wait a moment, you two."
Before long, the noodles, side dishes, and garlic were brought to the table.
Li Zhexian rolled up his sleeves and slurped down the steaming noodles in great mouthfuls. Then he picked up some side dishes with his chopsticks, bit into half a clove of garlic, and cried out in satisfaction.
Across from him, Ye Lingling copied his manner, only to have the pungent garlic bring tears to her eyes.
Li Zhexian shook his head and laughed.
Twilight gathered, and crowds flowed through the streets.
On either side of the alley, vendors lit their oil lamps one after another.
The uncle next door fanned his grill, and the smoky aroma of lamb skewers wafted through the air. Diagonally across the way, sugar-roasted chestnuts crackled in an iron pot as their vendor called out loudly. A little girl with a ponytail also stood watch over a bamboo basket piled high with orange-red dried persimmons.
The sounds and smells of the entire alley fermented beneath the dim yellow sky into the thick, clinging bustle of everyday life.
Just then, at the wine stall across from the noodle shop, the Green-robed Storyteller smacked his gavel with a sharp smack, drawing many glances.
Finding it amusing, Li Zhexian turned around with his noodle bowl in hand and looked over.
Ye Lingling followed suit.
"Honored audience, listen well to this splendid tale from the Imperial City Soul Fighting Arena—"
"There stood the Evil Fire Phoenix, his red hair bristling, his boot grinding down on Yufeng's chest! With a crack, bones shattered loudly enough to make one's teeth ache! The arena tiles burst apart, spiderweb cracks spreading across them!"
"The bastard threw back his head and laughed wildly. 'Is that all? Is that all the Imperial City has?!'"
"The audience was silent as death! Even the bookies' hands, clutching their gold notes, froze in midair!"
"But that madman still wasn't satisfied! With a flick of his toe, he kicked Yufeng off the arena, sending a spray of blood three yards high! Then he pointed at the sky and roared, 'Tell that strongest Jian Jiu to get his ass out here! I'm going to snap his sword and overturn his wine!'"
Having said that, as though he had anticipated it long ago, the storyteller snapped open his Folding Fan and shielded his face.
The entire stall erupted in fury. Everyone threw whatever they had at hand, their curses shaking the air.
"You little bastard, are you even from Heaven Dou City?!"
"What the hell are you talking about?! I've disliked you for ages—eat my shoe!"
"What Evil Fire Phoenix? He's a Fat Fire Turkey!"
"Just wait and see whether Jian Jiu beats the shit out of him tomorrow!"
Li Zhexian turned to Ye Lingling and asked, "Was what that storyteller said true?"
Ye Lingling thought for a moment, then nodded seriously.
"Mm."
She had not gone to the Soul Fighting Arena that day, so she did not know the exact circumstances.
But seeing how vividly the storyteller recounted it, it was probably... true, right?
"Alright. Got it."
Li Zhexian turned his gaze back toward the wine stall.
The Storyteller set down his Folding Fan.
Revealing a clean-shaven face wearing a hint of smugness.
"Heh! Take a look!"
"This is what you call professionalism!"
He knew perfectly well when the audience would start cursing him.
He cupped his hands toward the crowd, picked up the Gavel smeared with rotten egg, and slammed it down again with a smack.
"My story isn't over yet!"
"That Evil Fire Phoenix may have some tricks, but it's nowhere near good enough to challenge our Imperial City's Jian Jiu!"
"The banner bearing Jian Jiu's name is still wreathed in sparks, hanging high above our Imperial City Soul Fighting Arena!"
"Jian Jiu has not lost—who dares say our Imperial City is lacking?!"
"Just wait for tomorrow's grand show—"
Smack!
The Gavel came crashing down!
"Three-foot Green Edge Slays the Scruffy Fire Turkey!"
The throats of the audience bobbed. For several breaths, the entire hall was silent as death.
No one knew who was first to roar "Good!", but the crowd below immediately erupted in thunderous applause and earth-shaking cheers.
Copper Coins rained down on the Storyteller like raindrops.
This time, the Storyteller did not use his fan to block them.
Instead, he grinned as he held up a bowl to catch them.
"Not bad."
Li Zhexian pinched a Gold coin between his fingers.
With a flick of his finger, Golden Light flashed.
The Gold coin landed steadily on the Storyteller's table, dazzling brilliantly amid the pile of Copper Coins.
The Storyteller looked around excitedly, yet could not find the person who had rewarded him.
Only at the table in the Noodle Shop across from him—
one bowl of noodles had been emptied, while the other was still more than half full, steam still rising from it.
The people were already nowhere to be found.
Three updates today. The next chapter is still being written.
