Only up close could he make out the stone platform's appearance. Fine silver lines covered its entire surface, yet they looked like patterns it ought to have had in the first place, utterly natural.
Once Bai Mo stood still on the stone platform, a beam of light rose from it and fell onto him.
Then a silver light flashed, and an irregular, translucent crystal about the size of two fists appeared on the platform.
"Void Source Crystal!"
Bai Mo's gaze sharpened. He had read plenty of introductory books on his two magic elements, and in just the blink of an eye, he recognized the crystal before him.
His expression turned a little strange, though not because the thing in front of him was bad.
Void Source Crystals formed high above the vast heavens and contained rich, pure spatial magic energy. They were a top-grade resource for assisting Space Element Intermediate Level mages in their cultivation.
Space Magic Crystals were made by diluting this very thing.
Because they were difficult to collect, Void Source Crystals were very rare on the market, and their price was high as well.
A fist-sized Void Source Crystal could double the cultivation speed of a Space Element Intermediate Level mage for half a month.
But even a fist-sized Void Source Crystal cost eight million.
For other Space Mages, if they had the means, it was still something they could use.
But for Bai Mo, it was not very cost-effective. His cultivation speed was already much faster than an ordinary person's, and on top of that, he also had the Star Cloud Magic Artifact.
There was no need for him to buy that thing just to pursue even greater speed. It had little to do with the fact that he had no money.
The reason his expression was strange now was that Bai Mo had estimated his current Space Element cultivation.
He was already in the late stage of Intermediate Level Rank One. By his original estimate, he would probably be able to enter the next stage by the end of October.
But with this piece of Void Source Crystal, he would be able to advance to Intermediate Level Rank Two by the end of this month.
As Bai Mo picked up the Void Source Crystal, a silver light flashed, and he was instantly teleported out.
Standing where he had earlier stepped onto the Empty Thought Bridge outside, there were not many passersby surprised by the sudden appearance of a person.
This was, after all, a world of magic, and this place was the magically dazzling Modu. What had they not seen? As long as the thing that suddenly appeared was not a ferocious demon, they could accept it.
He put away the Void Source Crystal. Their next match would not be known until the drawing of lots the day after tomorrow.
And this afternoon, the school had a practical class. Bai Mo thought about it, and an idea formed in his mind.
The Wind Element was the fastest movement magic among all the elemental types. Bai Mo's use of Wind Track could only be described as ordinary; he could manage not to slam into walls or trees and the like.
That was the result of repeated practice in Doyaoguan, but at Doyaoguan, he could only train to that extent.
Because one demon in Doyaoguan could not catch him, nor could two. But if there were three, they would no longer obey the commands after the arena's simple training and would instead think about joining forces to escape Doyaoguan.
So Bai Mo decided to serve as a teaching assistant for the practical class.
On the field of Zhilan High School, the barrier was operating, and a figure rode a cyan-white Wind Track, racing at an extremely high speed through this space of over a hundred square meters.
Behind him and to his left and right, classmates likewise rode Wind Tracks or stepped on Earth Waves, chasing and intercepting him.
"Quick, Ye Feng, use ice to block Bai Mo!"
Someone stepping with Flash Step saw Bai Mo charging toward their side and shouted urgently to the classmate he had brought with him.
Ye Feng beside him immediately nodded solemnly, grinning viciously as he looked at Bai Mo coming their way. This kind of practical class was much more interesting.
Bai Mo really knows how to play! he praised inwardly, but his hands did not move slowly. Cold air swept out in all directions with him at the center, and as the starlight of magic connected—
"Ice Tendrils—Condense!"
Fine gauze-like ice enveloped Bai Mo, and pale frost spread toward him. Bai Mo's figure paused slightly.
With a nimble dodge, he evaded a ball of Fire Seed coming from behind and headed to the left.
"Perfect timing." On the left, a burly man let out a loud shout, his face full of excitement. He waved at the four classmates of the same element he had gathered together. "Brothers, release Earth Wave!"
Five steady, honest-looking men and women raised their hands, which glowed with earthy-yellow light, and slapped the ground in unison, shouting in low, muffled voices, "Earth Wave—Slow!"
A large stretch of soft mud and sand appeared beneath Bai Mo's feet just like that. The soft sand flowed messily in every direction, giving him no purchase as though it were the surface of water.
Bai Mo only felt his feet slip. He stopped instantly, not daring to take another step forward.
Seeing this, Teacher Xu, the practical combat teacher, clapped his hands and shouted, "Beautifully done! Fire Element, and Lightning Element too, hurry up and finish him off!"
"Coming!" someone behind Bai Mo answered.
Bai Mo's face darkened. He regretted it a little. If he had known, he would never have said he wanted to be a teaching assistant. More than thirty people in the class were surrounding him alone; fortunately, he ran fast.
But it was not over yet. Before the classmates behind him, who had no movement skills and no attacks and were coming over like zombies to block him with their bodies, could close in—
Bai Mo drew a line with his hand, and seven light, nimble cyan-white Star Dusts linked into an arc of light.
"Wind Track!"
"Rustle, rustle, rustle~~~!"
A powerful gale gathered, fiercely blowing out a cyan-white track of wind in the direction he pointed and abruptly splitting the soft mud and sand along the way.
Seizing this instant of opportunity, before the slowing soft sand could gather back together, Bai Mo stepped forward, air currents swirling around his feet.
He swiftly crossed the quicksand ground of the five classmates, flashed past the lightning and flames flying in from behind, and swept diagonally forward.
At the sight of this, Teacher Xu's eyes lit up, and he immediately shouted loudly, "Not bad! Wind Element students, all of you, learn from that!"
Bai Mo paid no attention to Teacher Xu's stand-up routine. He was wondering why everyone in this direction was a girl when one of them shouted, "Sisters, put on a light show for Brother Bai!"
The moment she finished speaking, a wave of replies rang out. "You got it!"
The instant the first dazzling golden light appeared, Bai Mo's eyes stung, and he instinctively shut them. Cries of "Holy crap!" rose all around him.
"Light Radiance—Blindness!"
Golden divine light streaked past one girl after another as they solemnly chanted the Magic Incantation.
"Holy Light Descent!" the girl leading them shouted, hurling out her Light Radiance first.
One after another after another—seven Light Radiances bright enough to blind someone hung suspended in the air, their dazzling brilliance visible even through the barrier.
"What the hell!"
"I'm blind~!"
"Merciful goddesses, withdraw your divine powers!"
The classmates inside the space all stood rooted to the spot, heads lowered, eyes shut, hands over their faces as they kept crying out.
Bai Mo also stopped his Wind Track. There was no escaping this. If he ran around blindly at Wind Track's speed, he would slam into someone and hurt them.
Feeling that intense holy light even through his eyelids, he could only lower his head, close his eyes, and cover them with his hands.
Then he was caught by the merciful goddesses who were unaffected by their own magic.
"Haha, in the end, you still had to rely on us Light Element users!"
The girl in the lead laughed smugly, and the others echoed her.
"Bai Mo, you said that if we caught you, you'd treat us to a meal."
The holy light faded, and the other classmates gathered around too, all turning into parrots.
"Yeah, exactly."
"Sure! I wasn't planning to go back on my word." Bai Mo opened his eyes as well and looked at the genius female classmate who had come up with this method. After thinking for a moment, he remembered that she seemed to be called Lin Dongjun.
So he added, "But, Lin Dongjun, could you let go of me first?"
"Ah, oh." Lin Dongjun glanced at the hand she had on Bai Mo's arm, then smiled and let go.
Teacher Xu rubbed his eyes as he walked over and asked, "Shall we continue? You girls can't use that method again."
Hearing that, the other classmates exchanged glances. The MVP of the first round had actually been taken by the Light Element users, and judging by the current time, who knew if there would even be a third round.
Although there was no reward anymore, winning against Bai Mo once still seemed pretty nice. Raging flames began to burn in their eyes.
All of them rubbed their hands together, racking their brains over how to trap Bai Mo one more time.
Bai Mo opened his mouth. He had actually wanted to say they should reduce the number of people and train individually.
But it seemed Teacher Xu had no intention of letting him do that.
Had he become a tool?
No matter how Bai Mo thought about it, something felt off. At the very beginning, what he had wanted was to make these people into tools for him to train Wind Track.
But it seemed that was indeed the case.
The one who had gained the most had actually become Teacher Xu!
