After a busy day, Rose and Minmin hailed a taxi and left together.
Including Little Jiangxi, the three of them had arrived in Shanghai and on Yellow River Road at slightly different times. Rose had come first; Minmin and Little Jiangxi had come together to seek their fortunes. But all three came from the same place. When they rented their apartments, Rose had helped handle everything. They lived close to one another, so they usually went home together.
With Little Jiangxi absent today, Rose and Minmin did not head straight back to their apartments. Instead, they took a taxi to the vicinity of Fuxing Park and got out in front of an old Western-style apartment building.
Rose took out a slip of paper and checked the address number. Then she and Minmin hurried up to the top floor and knocked on one of the doors.
