The jeep jolted to a stop, kicking up a cloud of dust.
"What, were you in a hurry to be reborn? Couldn't you brake a little slower?" Ma Kui grumbled after being jostled, shooting Wang Xin an annoyed glare before opening the passenger door and getting out.
Wang Xin curled his lip. "Too much crap going on today. Hard to please everyone."
As he spoke, he jumped out of the vehicle as well.
Wang Yan smiled and got out with them.
When the three from Group Three reached the gate, Ma Kui showed the guard his identification. "Hello, comrade. We're from Ningyang Railway. We need to look into something at your factory. Please get one of your factory leaders for us."
The guard was a young man in his twenties. He froze for a moment, then said, "Please wait. I'll make a call right away."
After saying that, he did not let the three of them in. Instead, he turned and went back into the little gatehouse. Rather than making the call immediately, he started talking with the people inside. Though the trio stood some distance away, they could still see several people smoking and playing cards inside.
"These guys are living pretty damn comfortably." Wang Xin folded his arms and rubbed the stubble on his chin. "Why do I get the feeling they're connected to this? What do you think, Old Ma? Wang Yan?"
"Not too dumb after all." Old Ma nodded with a smile. "It may be a town factory, but it still employs several hundred people and works with steel. The leaders wouldn't be so shortsighted as to covet the money from a few lengths of rail. It had to be people lower down the chain. They'd bring in shady scrap iron from outside, skim some money
