"Up, up."
As expected, Wang Yan was still the first one up. He patted Xu Sanduo in the upper bunk, called out to the other brothers in the squad, then raised his voice and shouted through the barracks.
"Ah, fuck..."

What answered Wang Yan was a chorus of groans and cries, as if they were half-dead and in utter agony.
That was the hard part about being a recruit. They were given almost no time to adapt. The sudden physical training had left all the new soldiers sore from head to toe, but they couldn't let it affect their training. They still had to keep drilling formations.
And because of Xu Sanduo, the recruits in Third Squad hurt even more. After their regular drills, they had done extra physical training in the afternoon before dinner. The other recruits hadn't been dragged into doing as much as Third Squad had because of Xu Sanduo. Naturally, they hurt more when morning came.
Though it had been many, many years since Wang Yan had last suffered sore muscles, he knew that feeling was anything but pleasant...
"Damn, Assistant Squad Leader, you really are a beast. You're totally fine?" one of the recruits asked.
"I used to work out every day back home. What's so strange about that?" Wang Yan waved with a grin. "Get up, all of you. Just grit your teeth and push through it."
"Don't stomp your feet. The second I do, my whole body hurts."
"You've got to endure it even if it hurts!"
Everyone turned to look. Shi Jin was walking over with a megaphone in hand.
"Get up, all of you! Same as yesterday—ten minutes to get your quarters in order. We'll be inspecting in a bit. Anyone who fails gets fifty push-ups. Move! Move!"
