Neither Shen Xing nor Guo Limin could sleep.
Wang Yan had gone out early, yet it was already well past midnight and he still had not returned.
Thinking of all the frightening rumors they had heard about this place, they could not help imagining the worst.
What kind of people ran casinos? They did not know for sure, but they knew they would not be simple people. Wang Yan had gone there to win money—how could they possibly let him leave so easily?
Wang Yan had held back last night and had not won too much, but if they searched their consciences, they knew that if they possessed gambling skills as brilliant as his, they might not have been able to restrain themselves either, bringing disaster upon themselves and costing them their lives.
So they wondered whether Wang Yan had been caught by the casino people, whether he had been badly beaten, whether he was about to be sold somewhere else for hard labor, and so on...
As they waited and waited, half-dazed, they heard the door opening. They hurriedly looked over and saw Wang Yan feeling around in the dark for a washbasin.
"Brother Yan? You're back?" Guo Limin asked from the top bunk.
Shen Xing also lowered his voice. "Brother Yan, nothing happened, right?"
"What could've happened? All right, get some sleep. We've got work tomorrow."
Wang Yan waved them off, then took the basin outside to fetch water. He gave himself a quick wipe-down and washed his feet as well.
Just as he was busy in the washroom, Guo Limin and Shen Xing came in.
"Brother Yan, really, nothing happened? If nothing happened, why'd you come back so late?" Shen Xing moved closer and asked quietly.
"What, afraid I'll drag you two into trouble?"
"Oh, Brother Yan,
