"Mr. Wang, come take a look! This is a radio, right?"
In the smoke-filled night, with corpses strewn everywhere, Snake Butt excitedly called out to Wang Yan.
Hearing him, Wang Yan, who had been sitting there eating Japan's canned pork, walked over while still eating.
Inside the military tent were several telephones, along with an actual radio.
Wang Yan stepped forward to inspect it. It was a high-powered tactical radio with a transmission range of over ten kilometers, used to communicate with the regiment above them.
He switched on the radio, flipped through the codebook, put on the headphones, and listened in silence.
"Snake Butt, go tell the brothers to finish clearing up quickly. Also send a team to deliver a message—have Long Wenzhang and the others pack up and withdraw. We'll rendezvous with Fan La's group. Go!"
Snake Butt's eyes widened. He had never expected Wang Yan to know how to fiddle with something as advanced as a radio, but he did not waste any words. He immediately turned and ran out, sending a team to notify Long Wenzhang.
Wang Yan listened to the radio for a while longer before shutting it off. He then had someone collect the radio and the codebook. He did not touch the telephones. They were wired phones and needed a switchboard; the main equipment was at regiment level. Taking the phones alone would have been useless.
The radio, on the other hand, was extremely useful. They could use it to intercept Japanese military communications. At worst, it could serve as an early warning system. The moment they switched it on and heard regular radio signals, it meant a Japanese battalion-sized force was nearby, and they should run for it.
There were spare batteries here as well, along with radio components and other supplies.
