Little Ballet had noticed the issue Xiao Suizi mentioned long ago; after all, her eyes had been fixed on Chen Can all along.
Chen Can and Zhu Ke had been taught a lesson by Wang Yan. They had lost both the fight and their pride, and as proud young men, how could they possibly hide it? If they had been the victors, they would have been even less able to conceal it. They might even have mocked Wang Yan at the dinner table, making sure everyone knew of their victory. When they won, they were arrogant and overbearing. When they lost, they feared embarrassment and losing face.
Seeing that Chen Can was in low spirits yet wolfing down his food even faster than usual, Xiao Suizi's eyes filled with concern. She desperately wanted to know what had happened so she could comfort the man she loved.
Lin Dingding laughed. "I was wondering why it felt so quiet. Zhu Ke loves making a fuss, but he's completely wilted today. Those male soldiers were acting strange this morning, too."
As she spoke, she called out loudly, "Hey, what's with you guys today? Why are you all so quiet?"
No one paid her any attention, which displeased her. She called again, "Liu Feng, why aren't any of you talking? If something happened, just say it."
Liu Feng waved his hands repeatedly. "It's nothing. Everyone's just tired and not in the mood. Hurry up and eat."
Seeing the probing looks from all the female soldiers, he quickly lowered his head and shoveled food into his mouth. He was not good at lying, and the awkwardness at the table made him uncomfortable. He wanted to finish eating as soon as possible so the awkwardness would not drag on any longer.
