A massive barrage of cannon fire exploded among the Norscan ranks.

Unfortunately... even when the cannonballs hit the Norscans directly, most of them were able to withstand the force with nothing but their armor and their battle-hardened bodies.

More than twenty cannons roared.

Yet they might not have killed even two Norscans...

That was what made the Norscans so terrifying.

By Dungeons & Dragons rules, an ordinary human soldier was about a 3rd-level fighter, while an elite halberdier or Greatsword was around 6th level. A Norscan warrior, on the other hand, was around 9th level—a truly terrifying prospect.

It was one of the reasons every Norscan invasion required throwing even more men at them than the Norscans had in their army.

"Thank goodness we listened to that lord and prepared in advance. Those damn savages really are beasts. They've traveled all this way, and they aren't even tired?" an Imperial general said, wiping the sweat from his brow as he stood atop Marienburg's walls.

The previous night, a priest of Sigmar had come straight to him and told him that the Norscan army was on its way. If his estimate was right, they would attack immediately and wouldn't linger for long, so the city needed to prepare its defenses.

Marienburg stood at what was, in a sense, the bottom of a V-shaped inlet.

Gronny in Batonia lay to the northwest, and Nord lay to the northeast.

In general, even if there was an attack, those two places were the first to be targeted.

Marienburg was rarely attacked.

As a result, the city had virtually no experience fighting the Norscans.

At least they'd received a warning.
