Because of the Great Vortex created by the High Elves, Chaos Demons basically couldn't enter the Warhammer world.
That was why this so-called Chaos Fleet wasn't actually made up of Chaos Demons. It was an army of corrupted humans.
There was no doubt about it: their target was the Great Vortex in Ulthuan. If they managed to destroy it, the Chaos Demons would be able to come straight through.
These so-called corrupted humans were, first of all, different from the Norscans. They were a very mixed bunch, and included Norscans.
There were wanted criminals who were either being hunted every day or spending their lives on the run, as well as pirates.
There were also Wizard who had accidentally killed an entire family of innocent civilians while Witch Hunting, or mages who had dabbled in forbidden magic, and even Witch Hunters corrupted by contact with too much Chaos.
In short, most of these men were people who had nowhere left to turn in the Empire or Batonia. Whether they'd run out of options or had simply been corrupted, they became Chaos soldiers and pawns in the destruction of the world in exchange for one more day of life.
Among all the races, humans were undoubtedly the most frequently corrupted. They were arguably the weakest, and the ones beset by the most misfortune.
They were no match for Dwarfs or Lizardmen in strength, or for Elves and Slann in magic. They couldn't even match the Greenskins and Skaven in reproductive ability.
Put simply, among all the races, humans seemed utterly useless.
And yet, once they pledged themselves to the Chaos Four Peddlers—
Khorne granted them great strength, Nurgle gave them incredible regenerative abilities, Slaanesh bestowed masterful combat skills, and Tzeentch granted them arcane magical powers.
With their sheer numbers, they had
