The moment he returned to the laboratory, the Truth Society's Chairman received some terrible news.
Bernardo, the Minister of Operations at the Truth Society's distant headquarters, had received top-secret intelligence from an agent embedded in the Railroad Guild. An hour and a half earlier, senior Railroad Guild officials had suddenly convened an emergency meeting. Those in attendance included the Guild's current chairman, its former chairman, the commander-in-chief of the army, Intelligence Department Minister Zhou Hailong, and Su Li, director of the Undying External Relations Bureau.
They had met for half an hour in a room with the strictest security measures. As soon as the meeting ended, the Railroad Guild began mobilizing its forces.
Even the Guild's ace agents, who were on vacation, had reportedly received orders to cut their leave short and assemble at military camps along the Guild's western border.
Half an hour after the mobilization order went out, the troops in the Railroad Guild's capital had assembled. They boarded armed helicopters and rushed to the camps to pick up agents arriving from elsewhere.
