As Enzo walked up the broad stairs of the Garrison, Bei Ya was striding down under the escort of dozens of Dragon Cavalry commanders. A burly man with a completely shaved head and a rough, vicious face slammed hard into Enzo's shoulder, knocking him several steps backward down the stairs.
The Dragon Cavalry commanders glared at Enzo with unfriendly eyes, intimidating him and forbidding him from coming any closer.
Bei Ya gave Enzo a wholly indifferent glance, then swaggered away with his pack of lackeys. The group strode arrogantly out of the Garrison. Along the way, Copper Hats and Dragon Cavalry alike bowed and stepped aside, not one daring to block their path.
Enzo drew a deep breath. Of course he recognized Bei Ya. But he had never imagined that Bei Ya had climbed so high, or that he would be so overbearing within the Garrison. The vast Garrison, charged with maintaining the Imperial Capital's daily order, practically reeked of being Bei Ya's private army.
Shaking his head, Enzo went upstairs. After asking a passing Garrison official for directions, he successfully arrived outside Major General Soss's office.
The bald Major General Soss personally welcomed Enzo into his office with a broad smile. He took the various official documents from Enzo's hand and gave them a cursory glance, then casually called over a Garrison clerk and told him to file the documents and compile Enzo's complete records.
He casually asked Enzo about the customs and local conditions of Irt Province. Having memorized quite a bit of information on Irt over the past few days, Enzo answered smoothly and fluently. The two exchanged a few bland words, then simply stared wide-eyed at each other in a daze.
