Time returned to when Ailis had gravely wounded Diogo and transformed into a streak of silver light, flying away from the Highlands.
After flying south for over a hundred li at tremendous speed, Ailis returned to human form and landed on the ground in a sorry state. This was one of the barren ravines found everywhere in the Highlands. Aside from a few venomous snakes lazily coiled in cracks between the rocks, there was practically no other life here.
Ailis's body trembled as she dropped to her knees in misery.
Covering her face with both hands, she sobbed softly. Tears fell one after another, congealing on the ground into translucent crystal beads, as though mithril and crystal had been melted and forged together in the same furnace. A middle-aged man who looked to be around forty appeared within the mirror. He had silver hair, crimson eyes, a dignified and handsome face, and an icy, sinister aura around him. Looking imperiously at the kneeling Ailis, he sternly rebuked her, "What happened? Why have you gone so far from Ais Te? I told you before that you must remain within a hundred meters of her at all times."
