In the First Abyss World, a dozen or so thin-blooded half-orcs were fleeing in disarray atop Jumping Wolf Spiders.

A slave-hunting party from the surface world rode red-spotted wolf lizards in relentless pursuit. One high-ranking, powerful slave hunter shouted wildly as he continually lowered his head to dodge the enormous clusters of mushrooms overhead. He carried a specially made crossbow, firing thumb-sized steel pellets from time to time. They struck the rocks ahead with ringing clanks, sending sparks flashing everywhere.

This was the First Abyss. Human powers from the surface world had already swallowed roughly half its territory. Compared to the creatures of the Abyss, greedy humans were even more savage and ruthless. They madly plundered every resource here, and naturally, half-orcs made quite suitable slaves.

One side fled while the other pursued, and without realizing it, they had covered dozens of miles. Suddenly, a half-orc let out a shrill howl. A steel pellet struck the back of his neck. The faceted pellet buried itself in his flesh and shattered his bones. The agony sent him tumbling headfirst from his Jumping Wolf Spider, his body rolling repeatedly across the ground as his rough skin was scraped bloody by the even rougher earth.

The half-orcs all reined in their Jumping Wolf Spiders. Grim, despairing smiles on their faces, they turned and raised their crude weapons. Staring at the slave hunters pursuing them—several times their number—they let out furious roars as one.
