Bargel was plainly stunned for a moment. He froze, then shoved his severed arm back onto his shoulder and shouted, "Mudel was taken out? Now that's truly seeing undead! Fine, I see countless undead every day, but I gave no order, didn't act personally, and never instructed our people to lay a hand on Mudel!"

Fixing Mu Wei with a grim gaze, Bargel said coldly, "Though we monsters of the Undead Divine Pantheon are ruthless and merciless, treacherous and cunning, capable of every kind of cruel method, we hate owing favors! I owe your grandfather two life-saving debts. Your grandfather, Mu Wei—he saved me twice when I was young!"

Drawing a deep breath, Bargel stopped Mu Wei before she could speak. "For two life-saving debts, I would not deal with him like this over some foolish act by Mudel—that young, impulsive little fool who was used as someone else's spear! He struck me with his sword and killed quite a few of our surviving companions, so at my insistence, I offset one life-saving debt I owed your grandfather and let the matter pass."

Shaking his head, Bargel looked at Mu Wei with great sincerity. "So I still owe your grandfather one life-saving debt, Mu Wei! Until that debt is repaid, at most I'll spank you and Mudel's asses—but I will not kill either of you! I didn't do it. My companions and subordinates didn't do it either!"
