The moment the eyes built from gray mist reacted, before they could do anything else, the scene before them suddenly turned hazy. The surroundings grew dark, and faint, terrifying cries came from some unknown place.
Noticing the change in his surroundings, the Dream Star Sect Vice Sect Master showed no emotional reaction. Instead, a realization dawned on him:
I shouldn't have revealed my hostility.
Somewhere in the haze, a glimmer of light appeared before him, faintly illuminating the darkness.
In a daze, the Vice Sect Master seemed to see a tall, upright figure with its back to him, slowly making its way toward the deepest part of the darkness.
It moved extraordinarily slowly, as though struggling.
At that moment, the figure sensed something and abruptly turned around. Its gaze shifted, settling on the Vice Sect Master.
Its eyes were icy. It simply stared coldly in his direction without uttering a word. Its gaze held a greed devoid of all reason.
The Vice Sect Master didn't panic. He met its gaze.
After a long while, the figure looked away. With considerable difficulty, it turned around and continued, step by step, toward the deepest part of the darkness.
"I overestimated you."
The Vice Sect Master suddenly chuckled under his breath, revealing the truth:
"So you've already been contaminated by that power to this extent. You've nearly lost your reason and sense of self."
Watching the figure grow fainter and fainter, he fell into thought:
"Just now, were you asking me to save you?"
The Vice Sect Master shook his head. Unfortunately, they weren't friends, nor were they partners.
Even if they had been, he might still have been powerless to help.
"I've heard that this place contains power released by the super-level anomaly, the Orange God Skull. I used to think it
