After tidying up, Zhang Bolei wasted no time and went straight to the meeting hall in the Prefecture Governor's Mansion to see Zong Yingyunting.
As he spoke, he watched the new Prefecture Governor from the corner of his eye. Though the man looked somewhat stern, he still carried himself with calm composure and showed no particular change in expression.
That put Zhang Bolei somewhat at ease. He figured the matter the other man wanted to discuss probably wasn't especially important.
At least,
it wouldn't affect their rule over Nanyan City. That was all that mattered.
What Zhang Bolei feared most was that the old forces of the Nanyan Army had some hidden cards up their sleeves and would launch a counterattack, targeting the Ninglu Army and gaining the upper hand.
If that happened, Nanyan City might fall into chaos. And then, those like him who had actively sided with the Ninglu Army could well be the first to be surrounded and slaughtered, then purged.
After all, in a sense, people like them had betrayed the former Prefecture Governor.
They had only made their choice after the tide had turned.
But their former allies probably wouldn't see it that way.
They would regard them as traitors.
They would hate them.
