Ch. 1081Trap
Plot points and events
- Luo Yi visits the Tianyan Sect’s Scripture Library and finds it crowded and effectively open to anyone. He decides the expanding sect needs clearer rules and tells Chen Tai’an, Wei Beichen, and others to create a system of rewards and punishments suited to the sect.
- Chen Tai’an arrives with familiar figures, including Wei Beichen, whose clothes are soaked with blood. Wei says he went out after studying the materials Luo Yi sent him, but initially downplays what happened.
- Wei explains that he visited the Cloudveil Waterside Pavilion and gives Luo Yi two Storage Bags: one containing an offering to the Tianyan Sect, the other containing compensation for a Heavenly Evolution Immortal Sect disciple whom the Pavilion claims was accidentally killed.
- Wei reveals that he tried everything to save the disciple but failed. The Pavilion deliberately allowed him to return, and he believes he might otherwise have been killed too.
- Enraged, Luo Yi takes Wei and immediately flies toward the Pavilion, telling him to show the way. Chen Tai’an fears the trip may be a trap and rushes to consult Qin Yezhou, who confidently says Luo Yi can handle it.
Character developments
- Luo Yi recognizes that the sect’s growth requires structure, but he prefers to leave rulemaking to others so he can focus on cultivation. When he learns of the killing and provocation, his fury is expressed through an unnervingly calm demeanor and decisive action.
- Wei Beichen has been trying to contribute to the sect through his new abilities and is willing to take risks. His bloodied return and admission that he could not save his companion reveal the emotional cost of that effort.
- Chen Tai’an takes his administrative duties seriously and is alert to the political danger behind the Pavilion’s actions.
- Qin Yezhou remains confident in Luo Yi’s ability to deal with the crisis.
Significant themes
- Order amid growth: The sect’s expansion makes informal practices inadequate, prompting the need for rules and accountability.
- Loyalty and sacrifice: Wei’s mission reflects his desire to serve, while his failure to save his companion weighs heavily on him.
- Provocation and power: The Pavilion’s “offering” and blood-price turn the death into a deliberate challenge to the Tianyan Sect.
- Calm as a warning: Luo Yi’s controlled expression signals a more dangerous anger than an outburst.
Character interactions
- Luo Yi and Chen Tai’an discuss the need for rules, with Luo Yi delegating the work rather than taking it on himself.
- Luo Yi presses Wei about his injuries; Wei first conceals the severity of the incident, then confesses what happened.
- After hearing Wei’s account, Luo Yi acts immediately, bringing Wei along to confront the Pavilion.
- Chen Tai’an seeks Qin Yezhou’s advice, but Qin reassures him that Luo Yi can manage the situation.
