Ch. 1341Putting on an Act
Plot points and events
- After being humiliated by a white-robed Human cultivator at the North Sea Dragon Palace’s First Princess’s birthday banquet, Ghost Child is determined to take revenge.
- His elders urge restraint, citing the danger of provoking the powerful faction they suspect stands behind the youth. Ghost Child argues that the youth’s hesitation to kill him proves he is bluffing about his backing.
- Ghost Child claims the youth spared him because he feared retaliation in the Northern Endless Sea. He warns that letting the youth return to his supposed sect could bring an even greater threat to the Ghost Child Clan.
- The elders begin reconsidering what they witnessed at the banquet. The white- and green-robed youths’ behavior may have been an act designed to help a Southern Endless Sea cultivator, rather than evidence of arrogance or powerful connections.
Character development and interactions
- Ghost Child shifts from wounded pride to confident, self-serving analysis. He frames revenge as a necessary act of survival and tries to persuade the elders that the white-robed youth is vulnerable.
- The clan elders move from caution and alarm to uncertainty. They fear both Ghost Child’s recklessness and the possible consequences of provoking a major Human faction.
- Their relationship is tense: the elders try to manage their young master, while Ghost Child insults their caution and pressures them to support his interpretation.
Significant themes
- Pride and retaliation: Ghost Child’s humiliation drives his desire for revenge, even when the risks are substantial.
- Power, reputation, and deterrence: Both sides’ apparent strength—and the uncertainty around it—shapes the clan’s choices.
- Misreading appearances: Ghost Child treats the youth’s hesitation as weakness, while the elders start to suspect the banquet performance concealed a different motive.
- Predation and hypocrisy: The elders admit that their clan secretly exploits Human cultivators for treasures, while avoiding conflicts with stronger factions.
