Reflections on Completing the Book
On September 11, 2015, I uploaded the story called cultivation chat.
On February 2, 2020, at the end of a cultivation chat chapter, I typed the words, "The End."
It took nearly four years and five months—somewhat longer than I had imagined.
I spent four years writing nearly ten months of Song Shuhang's life... Even thinking about it felt a little unbelievable.
Around June last year, I had already begun working on my completion plan and had gradually started wrapping things up. In theory, I had more than half a year to adjust my emotions.
But when I actually typed the words, "The End," I was struck by an overwhelming sense of emptiness and panic. My body went limp in the chair, and I couldn't move at all.
This was something I had never experienced with any of my previous completed novels.
It was probably because I had invested too much in this book and gained too much from it... The journey had also lasted an especially long time. Over those four years, I met so, so many readers and grew used to interacting with everyone through the book.
After uploading each chapter, I would read the reviews one by one and check the chapter comments. I could keep refreshing the page and spend ages reading. I would return to earlier chapters to look through the new comments—some I had replied to, and some I had liked.
Finishing my daily writing and reading the reviews, seeing everyone's feedback, had quietly become an indispensable part of my life. It had become a habit.
I might need a long time to adjust to no longer writing every day and no longer having book reviews to read.
The cultivation chat had ended.
