Ch. 2801A Set Following Another—It Was All a String of Tricks!
Chapter 2792 Summary: A Set Within a Set, All Schemes!
Plot and events
Song Shuhang prepares for the next round of the gambling ritual against Three-Eyed Boy Senior by dramatically releasing the power of his seven-plus-one cores. He calls this display his “European White Hand,” hoping to intimidate his opponent and demonstrate his supposed luck. Three-Eyed explains that drawing a card is simple: Song must gently press the Black Box, which will randomly produce a card.
Fairy Phoenix Claw questions whether Three-Eyed can secretly control the draw because the Black Box is his Magical Item. Three-Eyed assures her that the drawing process is completely random and “fair” at the most basic level. Confidently, Song Shuhang insists that his luck will still guarantee the best card.
Song theatrically raises his hand as if to smash the box, then pulls back his strength at the last moment and touches it gently. The box produces a glowing [World Fusion] card. Although the card is extremely valuable and was created from rare materials, it contains only two Law markings. Since the winner is determined by the number of Laws on the card—and the maximum is six—Three-Eyed declares that Song has fallen into his trap and is likely to lose.
Three-Eyed reveals that the apparent fairness of the draw concealed the real scheme: the contest rewards the card with the most Law markings, not necessarily the most powerful or valuable card. Song recognizes the result as possible “retribution” for previously using his white arm as a pointer during the ritual.
It then becomes Three-Eyed’s turn. He boasts that Song’s defeat is already certain and forcefully slams his palm onto the Black Box. The chapter ends as he reveals another trick: he had only instructed Song to press gently, never said that he himself had to do so. The forceful impact is apparently part of a protective strategy involving the Magical Item and the possible destruction of Six-Laws cards if it is attacked.
Character development
- Song Shuhang remains theatrically confident and competitive, using exaggerated displays of power and bravado to compensate for uncertainty. His confidence in his luck leads him directly into Three-Eyed’s carefully designed trap.
- Three-Eyed Boy Senior demonstrates his characteristic cunning and willingness to exploit technicalities. He preserves the appearance of fairness while manipulating the contest’s conditions to his advantage.
- Fairy Phoenix Claw becomes increasingly aware of the danger surrounding Three-Eyed Senior. She questions his fairness but is simultaneously nervous about provoking the powerful Nine Nether Ruler. Her internal reactions provide comic commentary on Song and Three-Eyed’s schemes.
Themes
- Superficial fairness versus genuine fairness: The card draw is random, but the rules governing victory are designed to favor Three-Eyed’s strategy.
- Cunning and loopholes: Both opponents interpret instructions literally and search for hidden advantages.
- Luck versus wisdom: Song relies on luck and confidence, while Three-Eyed argues that even a luck-based contest requires strategic thinking.
- Comedic bravado: Song’s exaggerated aura, his dramatic “slam” that becomes a gentle touch, and Three-Eyed’s boastful counterattack turn the confrontation into a battle of personalities as much as cards.
Character interactions
- Song asks Three-Eyed how to draw a card and challenges him with exaggerated confidence.
- Fairy Phoenix Claw questions the integrity of the process, prompting Three-Eyed’s explanation of his version of fairness.
- Three-Eyed mocks Song after the two-Law card appears, while Song jokes that it may be karmic punishment for his earlier behavior.
- Three-Eyed then taunts Song and makes his own dramatic move, setting up the next stage of their escalating contest.
