In the hall.
Oswell stopped his Kingsguard brother and sneered, "Between the King and the Crown Prince, you chose a snot-nosed kid. Tell me, did you make that decision while half-asleep?"
"Whent, watch your tongue."
Ser Jon said grimly.
Oswell gave a contemptuous laugh. "You successfully mastered Life Force. Did your master provide you with Special Crops and spend lavishly like yesterday?"
The Kingsguard brothers were close.
But before that, the Darry Family and House Whent had both been great houses of the Riverlands. They were naturally rivals.
They knew each other's backgrounds inside and out.
Bang!
Ser Jon flew into a rage and grabbed Oswell by the collar. "Let me tell you, you can mock me all you want. For the sake of our brotherhood in the Kingsguard, I won't take it to heart."
"But if you show Prince Daeren disrespect again, I won't hesitate to draw my sword against you."
Oswell sneered. "Then try it."
"You..."
Ser Jon was thoroughly enraged. He shoved him away hard and drew the sword at his waist.
"Ser Jon!"
Just as he was about to strike, Daeren's voice rang out from upstairs.
Oswell and Ser Jon looked up together and saw Daeren standing at the staircase entrance.
He was looking down with keen interest.
"Prince!" Ser Jon wanted to fight.
"You defended my honor, Ser."
Daeren praised him generously, his gaze flicking toward the dark-faced Oswell.
Was he really this stupid?
A Kingsguard openly declared whom he supported, then deliberately picked a fight and dared to offend him, a prince.
Why?
Daeren couldn't understand it. He suspected someone else was behind it.
