Day after day, another month passed.

Dora's greatest pleasure each day was waiting—and even searching—for opportunities to communicate with the "Lord." Whenever anything strange happened around her, she would immediately pray with devout sincerity.

In the laboratory, Reilo watched Dora's condition, a faint sneer appearing at the corner of his mouth.

He opened his experiment journal.

"It seems my approach to treatment was completely correct! All I have to do is find a way to keep patients from feeling fear and stop that fear from spiraling. Whatever the method, as long as the invading Superhumans lose their basis for plundering mental and emotional energy—their source of power—then the Superhuman trapped inside the patient becomes a rootless duckweed. Reilo recorded his experimental results, then fell into thought once more.

"However, this treatment relies on faith. Yet theological belief is the greatest obstacle to Natural Science. The new world of scholars in the future must never be controlled by these 'soul plunderers,' so I must find other ways to treat them."
