Reilo looked at the female scholar he had recruited from the Xilan Duchy: the master of magical restrictions who had once helped him establish the Solar Energy Laboratory.

They kept their distance. His voice was low, and he asked with a hint of apology.
If it hadn't been for him, she wouldn't have been confined to the Grand Natural Sciences Academy, trapped in the Grand Duchy.
Bailian still looked as sweet as ever.
"Reilo, you don't need to feel guilty about this. If it weren't for you, or for the Solar Energy Laboratory, I never would have been able to establish my own laboratory so quickly and earn the title of Associate Doctor. My older sister, Bai Qi, is still only a second-class research assistant at some advanced laboratory in the Xilan Duchy."
She didn't seem to mind being confined and having her freedom restricted.
At least, Reilo couldn't tell from her expression.
Bailian smiled. "You're probably the youngest dean in the history of the Grand Natural Sciences Academy. The academy's instructors are all waiting for you in the conference hall to take your oath of office. I'll head over first!"
Reilo silently watched her walk away.

Applause erupted...
As Reilo entered the conference hall, thunderous applause filled the vast auditorium. Among those present were many venerable old scholars.
Dressed in a plain black academic robe, Reilo smiled modestly at the crowd and walked toward the dais, step by step.
