The two-meter-wide Bubbles Flying Device moved against the undersea current.
After three months of tracking, Bailan had analyzed a vast amount of data and reached a conclusion: like the countless death whirlpools on land, this undersea current was likely a remnant of some cataclysmic weapon used in an ancient war of destruction.
It was clear, though, that the weapon responsible for this raging current must have belonged to a biological civilization that had developed around the ocean.
There were many similar currents in the ocean. Human scholars had already documented more than a hundred of them.
But a current that stretched across the ocean floor for hundreds of millions of kilometers—by Bailan's estimate, more than two Starveil units—and seemed to have no end was exceedingly rare.
After all, if its scale were comparable to that of a Destruction weapon that created a death whirlpool, it would be equivalent to a super-whirlpool large enough to cover an entire duchy in one strike. Even in the boundless Death Desert, such a super-whirlpool would be rare. At least, nothing like it had ever appeared in the scholars' route-marker records...
"It seems that, at some point in the past, a superpowerful civilization arose in this ocean—one far more advanced than the present-day Human Academic Circle."
From her analysis of the vast amount of data, Bailan had reached a conclusion that sent a chill down her spine.
The more wholeheartedly she devoted herself to this mission in the war between races, the more deeply she felt that she wasn't fighting alone. She represented the will of an entire civilization. She stood at the pinnacle of its science, technology, consciousness, and productivity, groping her way through the boundless darkness and cautiously confronting every unknown creature and enemy she encountered.
And the consequences of a single decision
