Ch. 341Darkness in the Deep Sea (XIII)
Key events
- Reilo and the Thunder Phoenix break the bearskin-coated Fighter free from the seaqi’s mind control. The seaqi queen’s immense mental power then attacks Reilo, but he resists—at the cost of being unable to move.
- Unable to control Reilo, the queen seizes the Thunder Phoenix. Reilo uses Insulation Confinement Technique to cut off its thunder-powered reinforcement, weakening it as a controlled weapon.
- With the Giant Crab dying, the queen releases it and escapes into the sky. Reilo strikes her with Raven’s Bite, a potent weapon made using divine blood, and the green flames burn away her body, leaving only an empty shell.
- Reilo, Alder, and Audrey find little useful material on the dead seaqi and Giant Crab. They regroup with the female magic archer, who has called for rescue; the Fighter remains unconscious.
- As a balloon airship approaches, the group sees Master Corleon’s enormous floating island break into fragments. They realize that falling pieces could cause devastating impacts.
Character developments and interactions
- Reilo demonstrates exceptional mental resilience, tactical ingenuity, and the destructive power of Raven’s Bite. He refuses Audrey’s request to trade for one, explaining that its crucial ingredient—400 cc of divine blood—is exceptionally hard to obtain.
- Alder proves highly effective against the Giant Crab, then reacts to the floating island’s transformation with a mix of awe, eagerness, and fear.
- Audrey admires Reilo’s weapon and tries to negotiate for one, but is deterred by its rare ingredient.
- The female magic archer tends to the rescued Fighter and arranges for the group’s rescue.
- The seaqi queen’s desperation escalates as her hosts fail: she shifts control from the Crab to the Phoenix, then attempts a rapid escape.
Significant themes
- Resistance and adaptation: Reilo survives overwhelming mental force and counters the queen by exploiting the Thunder Phoenix’s vulnerability.
- Power and its cost: Raven’s Bite is formidable but depends on scarce divine blood, while Reilo’s resistance leaves him physically immobilized.
- Escalating danger: The battle’s victory gives way to a potentially far greater threat as the floating island breaks apart, foreshadowing catastrophic destruction.
