After using up her three daily chat sessions, she got out of bed and walked over to the crafting table.
The ten thousand wooden arrows she'd just finished making went back into her backpack—no matter how many she had, it was never enough.
Next, she pulled out the Wooden Fence blueprint.
"Crafting materials: 2 Wood, 1 fence panel (1×1 meter)"
There were still over three thousand units of wood in the Storage Box.
She clicked to craft: 1,500 Wooden Fence panels.
[Ding, Wood ×3000 deducted. Crafting 1,500 Wooden Fence panels.]
[Wooden Fence crafting countdown: 04:09:59]
Figuring she still had time left in the night, Ji Xinghe tapped the crafting table again: craft Wooden Buckets, quantity 50.
[Wooden Bucket crafting queued... Please prepare 150 units of Wood.]
There was still wood in the Storage Box, so Ji Xinghe left it alone—the crafting table would deduct materials automatically.
Lying in bed, she thought about how much she could earn tomorrow. As her mind wandered, the room soon filled with the sound of steady breathing.
At the entrance of the Shelter, a Vine quietly slipped down from the tree, slinking along with a sneaky wiggle. It kept glancing back as it moved, and once it was sure the Dark Spirit Tree hadn't stirred, it nimbly slithered inside.
The Vine reached the bedside, paused for a few seconds, then picked up the Wooden Bucket and went to the bathroom to rinse itself clean. After that, it silently climbed onto the big bed and pressed itself tightly against its owner.
The next day, the first pale light of dawn crept in.
Soft yellow rays filtered through the window, brushing against Ji Xinghe's jet-black, silky hair and giving it a faint sheen.
Her thick, curled lashes fluttered. She lazily stretched out her arms, kicked her legs, and arched her back in a long, satisfying stretch.
Rubbing her eyes, she slowly lifted her heavy eyelids.
"Master, you're awake." A soft, clingy voice reached her ears.
Hearing Xiao Xi's voice, Ji Xinghe groggily looked down. The Vine wrapped around her fingers was wiggling cheerfully.
"Mm." She reached out and gently rubbed its tendrils. The bright green leaves, even fresher than yesterday, hung obediently at its sides.
She didn't scold it for climbing into bed on its own. Xiao Xi was still a baby—it was only natural for it to be dependent on her.
Throwing off the covers, Ji Xinghe put on the clean, sun-dried clothes.
Then she went to the crafting table, collected the finished Wooden Buckets into her backpack, and tossed the 1,500 Wooden Fence panels into the trading market.
She set the price: three units of wood for one fence panel.
If she sold them all, she'd net 1,500 units of wood.
Some of the basic materials she'd put on the market yesterday had also sold. She clicked to claim the 436 Wow Coins sitting in the backlog.
Listening to the satisfying clatter of Wow Coins rolling in, Ji Xinghe's lips curled up. She was about to get rich! (>y<)
She closed the panel, washed up, and headed outside.
The moment she pushed open the Shelter door, the Dark Spirit Tree inside the Wooden Fence rustled with a "shhh-shhh-shhh" sound.
Seeing this, Ji Xinghe raised her hand and waved. "Xiao Sha, good morning."
"Shhh-shhh-shhh." Good morning, Master.
"Shhh-shhh-shhh?" Where did you go last night? Weren't we supposed to guard Master's home together?
On her shoulder, Xiao Xi's Vine tendrils shrank back awkwardly. Its voice was sheepish. "I... last night... I was thinking..."
"Well, you're really strong, so I left the job of guarding Master's Shelter to you. My job is to guard Master."
"You guard the outside, I guard the inside."
"Yeah, that's it." As it finished speaking, Xiao Xi's tendrils relaxed, no longer stiff and awkward like before.
"Shhh-shhh-shhh." I see. Master and Sister Xi trust my strength and gave me such an important task. I'll do my best!
Only if I perform well will Master be willing to give me that precious Dark Spirit Source Liquid to eat (^O^).
Ji Xinghe had no idea about the little ones' conversation, let alone that her quest item was being coveted by a tree.
She walked past the beach, first collecting thirty buckets of seawater to fill the Water Purifier's top bucket.
The purified water from the bottom went back to the Shelter and into the Storage Box.
Then she took out the Fishing Rod and two buckets of fresh beast meat, heading toward the edge of the Island.
She swung the Fishing Rod, and the Fishing Line hit the sea with a dug. Ripples spread across the surface, only to vanish moments later.
Seeing the line sink into the sea, Xiao Xi quickly extended its tendrils. "Xi come, Master rest."
Ji Xinghe smiled and shook her head. "Eat first."
With a wave of her hand, two buckets of fresh beast meat appeared in front of Xiao Xi.
"Go call Xiao Sha over to eat."
The Vine nodded, then bounced away with quick, springy hops.
"Sha, come eat."
"Rustle rustle rustle." The Dark Spirit Tree's roots shifted, following behind the Vine.
These two—one bounced cheerfully, the other followed obediently behind like a big, honest lump.
Seeing them arrive, Ji Xinghe pointed at the Wooden Buckets. "One bucket each."
"Rustle rustle rustle."
"Master, you eat too." Xiao Xi knew her master's food was different from theirs, so she said no more, dipping her Vine into the bucket and digging in.
Xiao Sha, on the other hand, watched the big fellow eat meat with surprising delicacy.
But just yesterday, she'd seen this thing chowing down... wasn't it eating pretty heartily?
Remembering that yesterday's meal had all been Deformed Monsters, she tentatively pulled some Deformed Meat from her backpack and asked, "Do you guys eat this?"
Xiao Xi lifted her Vine to glance at it, clearly uninterested. "Xi has enough here."
"Rustle rustle rustle." I eat, I eat.
Ji Xinghe looked at Xiao Sha, saw its leaves fluttering, and heard Xiao Xi add, "Sha says it eats."
So she handed the Deformed Meat to Xiao Sha.
Xiao Sha extended a branch, took it happily, and still ate with that same refined manner—but it was noticeably faster than when it ate fresh beast meat.
