Background / History

Qin Haoxuan was raised in Datian Town in a family descended from former officials. His family followed a rule that descendants should study without pursuing official careers. With his father farming and his mother doing laundry for income, Qin Haoxuan began hunting alongside adults at eight and hunted alone from ten to help support the household. He also studied from childhood, viewing reading as a way to gain wisdom rather than fame. 1

At twelve, he was bitten by a strange colorful little snake. The incident enabled him to possess the snake and use its unusual capabilities, including searching for rare medicinal herbs. The ability carries a severe cost: after possessing the snake, Qin Haoxuan becomes exhausted and prone to sleeping for long periods the following day. 1

Before entering the Taichu Sect, Qin Haoxuan was respected among Datian Town’s youths for his hunting ability, scholarly bearing, and readiness to oppose bullies. His repeated clashes with Zhang Kuang culminated in Qin Haoxuan breaking four of Zhang Kuang’s ribs, leaving Zhang bedridden for months. 1

He joined the Taichu Sect after being selected despite mediocre measured aptitude. The Clear Mirror Immortal Eye later classified him as a colorless Weak Seed, making his subsequent cultivation achievements and combat performances highly unexpected. 3 7

His poor aptitude does not discourage him. He believes diligence can compensate for innate shortcomings and approaches cultivation with a firm Dao Heart, repeatedly enduring hardship in order to improve. 7 9 49

Although generally calm and thoughtful, Qin Haoxuan is also vengeful and capable of extreme ruthlessness toward enemies who threaten him or his companions. He severely retaliates against Yuan Shanxiang, Gu Xiaoyun, and the assassins sent against him in the Nine Yin Ice Cave. 23 46 49

After breaking open his Immortal Seed through perseverance, Qin Haoxuan enters Immortal-Slaying Poison Valley, acquires the Great Dao Heart Seed Demon Technique, and consumes the One-Leaf Golden Lotus. The medicine and witch technique enable him to survive attacks by Yuan Shanhu and Yuan Shanxiang, but lead to repeated confinement in the Lava Cellar. 9 10 13 16 21

Spirit Spring Land and Rooting

Qin Haoxuan uses Spiritual Sense to identify hidden Spirit Springs beneath barren fields. With Xu Yu and Murong Chao, he cultivates the land while resisting Gu Xiaoyun’s efforts to seize it. He then completes an unprecedented rooting process with six hundred compatible roots. 34 38 40

Nine Yin Ice Cave and Natural Hall
