"Did you take any action?"
"Of course. When I first realized what was happening, my first thought was that someone had broken into my home. The house was nearly two hundred square meters, and I lived there alone. One of the guest rooms was basically empty. I searched the whole place, and when I did... I found some things that hadn't been there before. They were all packages I'd reported missing. They'd been left in the corners of rooms and at the very back of cabinets, where I'd never notice them. That wasn't all. There was also a packet of tea that had been opened and used. At the time, I really thought there was someone else in the house, hiding somewhere... like in a horror movie. I mean, I'm a man, and this kind of thing usually happens to women who live alone. I called the police, but they couldn't find anything when they came. They even suggested I see a doctor. I'd considered that possibility too... sigh... I wondered if I had some kind of mental problem, and maybe I was doing things without realizing it... Starting my own business had been pretty rough. Things weren't going well, and I often couldn't sleep back then..."
"Did you go to the hospital?"
"Yes. I made time to see a doctor. They told me a lot, but basically... since I'd already raised the possibility myself, they went along with that explanation. I didn't really believe it. So I ran some experiments at home. For several days, I kept a folding knife on me. When I went to bed, I put it under my pillow. Whenever I left the house, I stretched threads across the doors and windows. I also tried clear tape. Then I ordered takeout to be delivered... sigh...
