I'd found a target, and my mood improved considerably. But physically, I still felt tired and hungry. My throat was dry, and I didn't feel like talking.
I immediately thought of a troubling possibility.
Su Xiaoyu and the others had lived here originally, so they were trapped here and couldn't return to the real world. They couldn't die here, either; they could only keep dying and coming back to life. But what about the three of us? We didn't belong in this alternate space. I had no memories connected to it. That should have been a clear sign of rejection. If we died here, we might really be dead.
My mood grew heavy again.
I sighed, but didn't tell Skinny or Nantian what I was thinking. They looked exhausted, too.
After crying, Su Xiaoyu seemed to have finally lifted a weight from her heart.
She glanced at Nantian cautiously.
Nantian asked, "Can you take us to that school?"
"Mm. Yes! Um... did you... did you receive a delivery?" Su Xiaoyu sprang to her feet, awkwardly lifted her bicycle, then turned and asked.
Nantian nodded. "Sort of. One of my fans received a delivery. I happened to be there, so I helped her open it. As for this place... we don't remember anything." He looked bewildered.
I'd never been particularly interested in young celebrities in China, but now I realized Nantian was actually a pretty good actor.
Su Xiaoyu let out a small gasp.
Nantian continued, "You may not know this, but some people like you have found one another. They keep searching for the memories they've lost, hoping to find their parents and families. My fan mentioned it in the letter she sent me. She wanted to find her parents. I arranged to meet her, and we talked several times.
