I hadn't done anything, and things seemed to be getting better. I'd even come up with a new idea. Once the shock of the change wore off, I began to seriously consider its pros and cons.
Thinking about it led me to what Qiu Ziyang had said about the future. Was it future me who had brought all this about? Did future me really want everyone to become ghosts, become the Ghost King myself, and shelter all my friends and family?
I furrowed my brow.
It should have been easy to guess what I was thinking, but something about it just didn't feel right.
I couldn't be sure how much of the future Qiu Ziyang had shown me was real. Ye Qing hadn't given up, but I couldn't be sure whether she had a new plan.
In that respect, I knew just as little as I had before.
Footsteps sounded in the living room, followed by the toilet flushing and the tap running. Before long, the sounds reached the kitchen.
I opened the door and went out to see Mom already up and busy in the kitchen.
"I'm making porridge, millet porridge. Want some? There are salted eggs, too, and a little leftover food from yesterday." Mom spoke, then looked me over. "Why are you up so early? When are you and your sister leaving today? Have you taken out the new quilt?"
She chattered away about everyday things.
Warmth filled my heart. "Got it. I just got up a little earlier, that's all."
"Oh. Your sister's sheets and quilt are in the wardrobe in our room. Get your dad to help you find them. And take a suitcase... your travel case will do." Mom said this as she put the washed millet and other grains into the rice cooker.
