"Four Seas Wealth? I see." Chen Xiao Qiu blurted out the first half, then regained her composure for the second, though even that was slightly different from her usual calm.
She agreed to my request, then said nothing more and pulled out her phone as she headed outside.
Only four of us remained in the room. The Skinny Guy and the other two looked at me, all awkward. Their awkward expressions soon turned numb.
They seemed unsure what to do.
I could understand how they felt.
I felt the same way now.
We each clearly had memories of the other and shared a bond, but our memories didn't match. That bond had become incredibly fragile and indistinct.
"So I guess some things are just destined to happen, huh?" The Skinny Guy cleared his throat and got the conversation started. "The past changed, but some things stayed the same. For example, well, we still all ended up working together at the Relocation Office, and some things still happened. Ha! A-Guang's marriage was destined too. It was fate."
The Skinny Guy patted the Fat Guy's sturdy shoulder.
"Is it still Xue Jingyue? So you met at..." I followed his lead.
I honestly didn't know how to face the Skinny Guy and the others either.
If, after I finished telling them everything, my memories were altered too, then I wouldn't have to worry about it. If they didn't believe me and we fell out, or even became enemies, I could just avoid them. And in another scenario, I might simply die, which would be an even easier solution.
But things had turned out differently. My memories hadn't been altered, they'd confirmed I wasn't lying, and there was no way I'd die right away—not in the short term, or at least not right now.
