"Of course." I nodded, letting her know I was willing to help.
Whether the Mu Ai in front of me was the original or not, my goal was to destroy this place. Rescuing Mu Ge along the way was no problem.
Mu Ge's ability was incredibly powerful and useful.
If those ghosts hadn't caught him off guard and killed him outright, or attacked him from a distance, he couldn't have died.
And if they'd gone to the trouble of capturing Mu Ge, they couldn't have intended to kill him. They wouldn't have needed to go to all that trouble.
Mu Ge was still alive. He might even have some of the ghosts here under his control. In the best-case scenario, he might already have escaped.
But when I saw Mu Ai's grateful smile, I lost that confidence.
All of that depended on Mu Ge having used his ability.
He knew about the side effects of his ability... didn't he?
If it was for Mu Ai, he might well have given up using his ability. Then he would have no way to fight back.
"When was your dad taken?" I asked.
Mu Ai answered at once. "Last Friday."
"Four days ago?" I confirmed.
Mu Ai nodded.
I cautiously asked, "Do you know what your dad's ability is?"
Mu Ai looked up at me, confused at first, but then she suddenly understood. "You mean how Dad can always persuade people?"
"Yeah."
"Dad said he couldn't do it anymore." Mu Ai lowered her head sadly. "If Dad could still do that, he would've come back."
My heart gave a jolt.
"Why can't he do it anymore?" As I asked, a vague feeling stirred in me, and my heart began to race.
"Dad said he gave it to someone else. He doesn't need it
