The taxi Zhuang Huai had mentioned followed right behind the police car, but after turning a corner, it drove off.
I looked at Zhuang Huai in confusion.
"I've seen it twice now. This road should lead to Crooked Neck Village too." Zhuang Huai glanced at the navigation system.
I hadn't touched the map on the navigation system, but if Zhuang Huai said so, he must have had a reason.
I hadn't memorized the license plate of Chen Zian's taxi, so I couldn't tell whether the taxi we'd just seen was his.
Zhuang Huai didn't seem to care much about that.
A little while later, Zhuang Huai's phone rang.
There weren't many cars in Huixiang, but there weren't many taxis either. There were still plenty of sedans, vans, and trucks. From what we'd seen on the way here over the past two days, the traffic situation was certainly nothing to brag about. The drivers were careless, and the roads weren't planned very well. At least, it was nothing like People's Celebration City, where there were traffic lights, cameras, and yellow and white lines everywhere...
Zhuang Huai, however, paid close attention to the traffic rules. He pulled over before answering the call.
"Hello? Mm, oh... Any other findings? Mm... Okay, got it. We're going to Crooked Neck Village. Don't worry, it's nothing. You'd better hold off on telling anyone at the bureau for now, but those field agents..." Zhuang Huai paused for a moment. "Tell them to be careful."
Zhuang Huai hung up and put his phone away.
As he started the car again, he said, "That was Wang Xiaopeng."
I turned to look at Zhuang Huai, and Lü Qiaolan, sitting in the back, looked at him too.
"They've sent the body back to the bureau. The forensic examiner here in Huixiang
