"Did anything happen that night?"
"Y-yes, something happened. That night, I woke up halfway through the night because of a noise... Though I can't really say it woke me. I just suddenly came to. When I first woke up, I saw that it was still dark outside, so I wanted to go back to sleep. But when I turned over, something felt wrong. There were only four of us in my prefab room. Old Qin was across from me, and the others slept in the lower bunks of the other two bunk beds. Old Qin and one other guy snored. Their snores were intermittent; sometimes they'd suddenly stop, as if they'd stopped breathing. In one of those gaps, I heard a little noise. Outside the room, someone was running. And there was a child laughing."
"Did both sounds belong to the same ghost?"
"Probably... Old Qin and the others had only ever seen one child, the same little girl. The voice I heard should've been hers too. I saw her later... When I heard the sounds, I wanted to wake Old Qin across from me. At the time, I still thought it was a local kid sneaking in. Kids are nimble, so maybe that was why Old Qin and the others couldn't catch her. After a while, they started imagining things.
