Ghosts in the village, unlike the tragic ones haunting Zhou Kaiwei, appear normal and indifferent. They tell Lu Mannning she doesn't belong there and refuse to help Zhou Kaiwei. Lu Mannning, determined to save Zhou Kaiwei, attempts to enter the village again. The chapter ends with Lu Mannning grabbing the narrator's hand, leaving the narrator with a sense of familiarity and determination.
