A room appeared on the screen. A young man entered, quickly shedding his outer clothes and putting on a silver-white, form-fitting jumpsuit. He picked up a helmet and put it on. The helmet resembled a bicycle helmet from Earth, with ear protection. He fastened the chin strap and shook his head, seemingly checking if it was secure.
Next, he fastened a wide belt, put on knee-high boots, and elbow-length gloves. It was clear this was a complete set of gear.
He then stepped onto a circular platform about two meters in diameter.
Mi Feng introduced, "This is a quantum remote control workstation. Although it's poorly made, it's sufficient for controlling mechs."
Immediately, the workstation lit up, and a circular energy shield appeared. The young man lifted off the ground, suspended in the center of the shield. He quickly pulled down the visor on his helmet and entered a working state.
The camera switched to a robot lying in a confined space. This was presumably the robot the young man was controlling. He pressed a button beside him, and the small space began to slide out. The camera then shifted again.
On a massive wall, there were countless compartments. One compartment slid out like a drawer and then descended along a track at the edge. It quickly reached the bottom. The camera zoomed out, revealing dozens of such walls, appearing incredibly spectacular.
This was the entrance and exit to the initial robot safety zone!
As the camera zoomed in, the robot controlled by the man came into Zhang Hao's view.
"The robot he's controlling isn't that great!"
Mi Feng stopped the playback and said, "The robot he's controlling is actually quite good. This isn't an initial robot. Let me show you an initial robot."
Mi Feng began to repeatedly show initial robots. Their crudeness was truly terrible, and even their movements were difficult to synchronize. According to the locals, these were "blank slate" robots. Such robots, let alone controlling mechs, were not even wanted for menial tasks within the base fortress. They could only go out and scavenge for trash near the fortress.
About ten types of robots were displayed: initial robots, complete robots, enhanced robots, exquisite robots, elite robots, top-tier robots, and so on.
Zhang Hao asked, "What category does my custom robot fall into?"
"That's different. Custom robots are generally only owned by the powerful and wealthy, because to customize one, you need to own your own base fortress."
Even custom robots had different tiers. Zhang Hao was starting to understand.
Mi Feng continued to play the short film. The man checked the robot's condition. There was an automated self-check program that could identify potential issues with the robot. If the issues were significant, it needed to be repaired.
Remote control alone couldn't fully manage a robot; an intelligent system was necessary to help. With the system's assistance, human capabilities could be maximized. Of course, intelligent systems also had different tiers, with more advanced ones being more expensive.
Zhang Hao noticed the location where the man was. He could see a crimson sky and tall fortresses connected to each other. Numerous gun barrels and other weapon emplacements were visible on them. These fortresses almost completely obscured the base, with only small gaps revealing the sky.
"The environment here seems very harsh!"
"Of course. Ninety-five percent of the air here is carbon dioxide, with a small amount of nitrogen. Humans simply cannot survive here. Especially the gravity, which is three times that of Earth. If a person came here, they wouldn't even be able to walk. Only robots are unaffected; they just consume a bit more energy to move freely."
"Temperatures here are normally seventy to eighty degrees Celsius during the day, and over a hundred degrees Celsius is not uncommon. At night, minus forty to fifty degrees Celsius is the norm. If it weren't for robots, no one could endure this."
"There are also frequent superstorms here. A storm with speeds reaching a thousand kilometers per hour is common. Even mechs can't withstand them. So, on the slaughter planet, the most common sight is various kinds of shattered mechs. People often use crude robots to collect parts from broken mechs. If they're careful, they can get good yields."
"Storms are also categorized. There's one you must avoid: black storms. They are extremely vicious."
Zhang Hao said, "It's that harsh..."
"It's already quite good. At least no one has to die. Losing machines and mechs isn't a big deal."
As they chatted, they watched the man enter a fortress. This was likely one of his strongholds. After a moment, the man came out in a hurry and ran quickly along the street.
Zhang Hao was very curious and asked, "Why is he running so fast?"
"The day is seventy-two hours long, and the night is thirty-six hours. At night, you basically can't do anything. Only high-level robots and mechs can withstand the extreme cold. The high temperature, on the other hand, is not an issue."
"So, he has to complete his mission during the day."
Zhang Hao asked, "Why doesn't he bring his mech?"
"You'll find out if you keep watching."
The man ran to the base gate. After exiting, he quickly entered a large fortress. He inserted a tag hanging from his neck into a row of machines. Moments later, the ground split open, and a lift brought up a mech. This was a leopard-type mech, slender and all-metal, gleaming. It looked to be about eight meters tall.
"This is a light mech! This person's strength is just average, wouldn't you say?"
Mi Feng offered his assessment.
The man inserted his tag into the leopard mech's abdomen. The abdomen then split open, and he quickly climbed inside. The leopard mech ran out. At this point, the short film ended.
Stored at the entrance, retrieved at the entrance? Zhang Hao was full of questions.
Mi Feng said, "You probably remember spatial storage, right? This place doesn't have that technology! Only we possess it. When we go out, we can carry a few mechs with just a small backpack, which is very convenient."
A wry smile appeared on Zhang Hao's face. He had to admit, this robot was indeed a high-end custom model, capable of expressing even a wry smile very well and realistically.
Black technology is truly terrifying, he thought to himself.
Mi Feng continued his explanation.
"As for why the person earlier retrieved the mech at the entrance, it's simple. Mechs cannot enter fortresses because their destructive power is too great. If someone were to act recklessly, it could easily cause chaos within the fortress. Inside the fortress, only the fortress owner can bring a mech, and they must patrol designated areas. They also cannot roam freely. Of course, if there's an emergency, special arrangements can be made."
Zhang Hao said, "You mentioned his mech was a leopard-type mech earlier. Can you tell me about the types of mechs?"
Mi Feng readily replied, "No problem! I'll try to give you a simple overview."
"Mech classifications are very complex, including engineering mechs, construction mechs, excavation mechs, communication mechs, reconnaissance mechs, ground transport mechs, aerial transport mechs, repair mechs, logistics mechs, combat mechs, and many other categories. They are primarily classified by their work."
