The three left the group and returned to the military camp. They quickly found the armory. Killing the rebels directly was satisfying, but using weapons was more efficient. There were too many rebels, especially those in retreat. They were almost at another, larger camp with even more troops.
The three had driven here in armored vehicles. The armory they found was not very large, and its weapons and equipment were a mixture of old and new. They hauled out six machine guns and took box after box of ready-made ammunition belts, along with a large number of mortar shells. They didn't plan to use the mortars, though. Instead, they intended to throw the shells by hand; all they had to do was fit the fuses.
They also found a large number of offensive grenades, which seemed to be products of the Huaxia Kingdom. They piled those into the armored vehicle, along with a large number of hand grenades, until the vehicle was full. They had no choice but to find another armored vehicle. The three were robots, so fatigue wasn't an issue. They also found plenty of TNT and detonators in the armory and loaded those onto the vehicles as well.
One of the armored vehicles had a .50-caliber heavy machine gun mounted on it, and they found plenty of ammunition belts for it.
Zhang Hao said, "All right, that's enough for a round of mayhem. I hope they enjoy this baptism of fire. Amen!"
Mifeng drove one vehicle, and Zhang Hao drove the other. Zhang Yihu stayed inside, fitting fuses to the mortar shells, bundling the TNT, attaching the detonators, and inserting the fuses. At his speed, he should be able to finish before they reached the camp.
A map appeared in their minds: a map of the other military camp. Red dots crowded the area. The rebel troops who had escaped had already entered the camp.
Zhang Hao said, "They're on alert!"
"What good will that do? They're all just coming here to get killed!" Mifeng said.
"How many souls did we collect this time?" Zhang Hao asked.
"More than eight hundred. Too few!"
Zhang Hao didn't think it was too few. These souls were exceptionally high-quality; they weren't easy to come by.
Before long, Mifeng found a point of attack. The three quickly divided up the weapons and ammunition, then Mifeng drove off in one armored vehicle. His attack point was on the far side of the camp, while Zhang Hao and Zhang Yihu were on the other side.
They unloaded a large quantity of weapons and ammunition and laid them out on the ground: mortar shells, TNT, grenades, and hand grenades. The three robots could communicate smoothly, and they prepared to act together.
On the map, a large number of armored personnel carriers and tanks, along with countless pickup trucks, were gathering. The entire camp was brightly lit, with headlights blazing. Soldiers were climbing into the vehicles, preparing in a chaotic rush.
Let's begin!
They had already fitted the fuses to the mortar shells, including the large 120-millimeter rounds. All three started throwing at once. A robot's strength was beyond anything a human could imagine. In just over ten seconds, the three had thrown more than a hundred mortar shells. Most astonishing of all, they did it in complete silence.
Explosions erupted, and the camp fell into utter chaos.
The three used the map to guide their aim as they threw mortar shells, hand grenades, offensive grenades, and explosives. Wherever red dots clustered, explosions were sure to follow.
Zhang Hao threw grenades, his arm moving so fast that it blurred.
The rebels in the camp couldn't find their attackers at all. Bombs would suddenly fall nearby, blasting them into a panic.
The bundled TNT was especially devastating. Each bundle could knock down a whole group when it landed. Its power was incredible.
In less than ten minutes, they had thrown every bomb they could. The whole camp was now engulfed in raging flames.
Mifeng ordered, "Charge in!"
Zhang Yihu drove the armored vehicle straight ahead, while Zhang Hao stood inside with half his body exposed, manning the machine gun and firing short bursts at a furious pace. His "short bursts" were practically a continuous spray, thanks to his incredible speed and pinpoint accuracy. A bunker stood by the gate, and a hail of bullets rained down. The armored vehicle rang with the clatter of impacts.
The more dangerous things got, the calmer Zhang Hao found himself. He looked for the greatest threats first and took them out with the machine gun. Ordinary threats didn't need his attention. He fired a few shots when he had the chance; if he didn't, it didn't matter. Anyone carrying a rocket launcher was a priority target.
They fought their way forward.
In moments, they reached the convoy. Countless gunshots hammered the armored vehicle. Zhang Hao had already ducked back inside. He grabbed the two machine guns they had prepared and charged out of the vehicle. Zhang Yihu did the same, carrying one machine gun in each hand. Their arms were far steadier than any machine-gun mount.
They had barely gone far when a rocket struck the armored vehicle. Neither paid it any attention. They kept moving and firing without pause, as fast as lightning. Any soldier who saw them was as good as dead.
Before long, Zhang Hao and Zhang Yihu split up, each fighting his way through the enemy.
There were far too many troops in the camp. They were impossible to kill all at once. Even though the earlier barrage had killed plenty, it had wounded even more. As long as they weren't dead, Mifeng and the others couldn't harvest their souls.
The three took separate routes toward the camp's armory, which was much larger than the previous one.
Zhang Hao had thrown away his machine gun long ago. A machine gun without ammunition was just a stick. Still, even a stick could kill. But after he had smashed a dozen people with it, the stick broke too.
He grabbed guns as he went and charged onward. Zhang Hao was so fast that almost no one could stop him.
He had just rushed out of a dilapidated house when a machine gun opened fire outside. A few bullets hit him, clanging against his body and forcing him back a step. He flew into a rage. After all this time, he had finally been hit.
The machine-gun rounds made Zhang Hao visible, and the soldiers who saw him immediately opened fire in a frenzy.
Zhang Hao charged forward, not caring that the bullets were hitting him. He already had a dagger in hand. In an instant, he was beside the machine-gunners. The sound of stabbing filled the air, followed by a chorus of screams.
A rocket came flying toward him. Zhang Hao smacked it aside with his palm, sending it off to the side, where it exploded with a roar and shrapnel flew everywhere. He ignored it, scooped up the machine gun on the ground, and charged onward.
The three soon regrouped in front of the armory. They charged straight in. Even with bunkers along the road firing machine guns at them, nothing could stop them from reaching the armory doors. Mifeng didn't slow down. He rammed straight into the doors with a roar and burst inside.
Zhang Yihu and Zhang Hao crashed in right after him.
A large number of soldiers surrounded the entrance and opened fire wildly into the hole in the doorway. Someone shouted,
"Bring the rocket launcher!"
Just then, one hand grenade after another came flying out of the hole in the armory door. The explosions tore through the area, and the soldiers who had gathered around fell in heaps.
There was no shortage of weapons and equipment inside the armory. They even found plenty of artillery shells.
Mifeng muttered, "Another armory. Damn it! I hate armories!"
It was the first time Zhang Hao had heard Mifeng swear. He knew the guy had once suffered a terrible loss in an armory and probably still carried the trauma in his soul.
