The temple wasn't large. Chen Hao quickly searched it from top to bottom, looking for Pang Xiaofeng's body, but couldn't find it. "Chen Hao." Jiang Cheng held out his hand, his voice cold. "Take a look at this."
Chen Hao walked over and took a small object from Jiang Cheng. It was one of the rhino horns distributed by the Night Watchman, but unlike the others, this polished horn bore scorch marks.
"I found it on the ground." Jiang Cheng looked at him calmly. "Right in front of the incense burner."
There was no doubt that Pang Xiaofeng had been the one to burn the rhino horn here last night. He must have encountered something terrifying. Clutching the horn, Chen Hao looked toward the incense burner.
A stick of incense remained in the burner, reduced to less than half its length. It had long since gone out.
The candle the Night Watchman had mentioned had also burned down, leaving only an empty candlestick.
Jiang Cheng and Chen Hao looked up at that moment, directing their attention to the statue. It was unchanged from the night before, its robes still billowing gracefully, but the two of them had noticed something unusual.
Before either of them could speak, Yu Chengmu came over, stroking his beard and walking with his legs splayed. "You two young fellows have noticed something's wrong too, haven't you?"
"I don't know as much as you do, sir, but the statue is far too lifelike," Chen Hao replied honestly.
"Heh. This isn't an ordinary statue. It's a ghost altar built specifically for a ritual." Yu Chengmu's voice changed, turning rather eerie. "In other words, this place... is a ghost temple."
"Do
