It was He Ping, no doubt about it!
But the Fatty had never expected that He Ping would be holding a huge black tray, with seven bloodied heads resting on it.
The whole scene was shrouded in a bizarre atmosphere somewhere between worship and sacrifice. The Fatty didn't come back to his senses until He Ping disappeared from view.
Including He Ping, there were five intact corpses in all. By the time the ghostly steed appeared again tomorrow night, there would be six.
It had been confirmed: one person would be taken each night.
The sound of hooves gradually faded into the distance. It seemed the ghostly steed hadn't found anyone on the third floor. To be fair, its way of searching was far too haphazard. As long as you hid well and didn't make a sound, you'd be fine.
But just as the Fatty had managed to shake off his earlier fear, a phone suddenly rang, its sound especially jarring in the silence.
The Fatty's heart sank. He recognized the ringtone as coming from the study where Yao Shunyu was hiding. And... it was exactly the same tune everyone had heard the night before!
Before he could think, the floor began to tremble. Heavy hoofbeats thundered toward them, mingling with the clatter of chains and the scrape of shoes against the floor, all rushing in like a gust of wind.
With a bang, the study door was smashed open. The bookshelf toppled, followed by the sound of porcelain vases hitting the floor and shattering.
The Fatty's first thought was that Yao Shunyu was done for. But he couldn't understand why. Besides, hadn't Yao Shunyu proposed working with the doctor?
Had he been trying to trick the doctor, only for the doctor to see through him and kill him instead?
