Jiang Cheng couldn't help growing wary. He pulled No. 13 away from the fat man and looked at the two of them differently. This was the most critical moment of the portal project, yet Lin Wan'er, its leader, had risked her life for some so-called research team. It made no sense.
Either the research team was hiding a huge secret that had forced Lin Wan'er to take such a risk, or... or the two people in front of him were lying!
Unlike the fat man, Jiang Cheng had no absolute trust in these Crimson people. They were allies in name only, and he didn't believe in their so-called shared past.
"A research team was worth Lin Wan'er going to investigate in person?" Jiang Cheng sneered, fixing his gaze on No. 13's reddened eyes as he pressed, "The Lin Wan'er I know wouldn't do something that stupid. Tell me the truth. What's really going on?"
No. 2 stepped forward and answered for No. 13. "Zero, everything we've told you is true. At least, that's what we were told. We don't know where that research team came from, either. You know what the Boss is like. She never explains certain things. But I could tell that even though she seemed calm when she heard about this, she was actually very worried. She left that very night with No. 3 and gathered a team to head into the mountains."
Indeed, based on what Jiang Cheng knew of Lin Wan'er, she wouldn't say a word about anything she wanted to keep secret. But judging by how things had turned out, Jiang Cheng didn't believe she would have left without making any contingency plans. "So, what arrangements did Lin Wan'er make before she left?"
"The Boss left a letter with Wanyan Ning. None of us
