With doubts on both sides, Jiang Cheng felt as though either way led to a dead end. He took a deep breath and made a bold decision: he would turn around and see what the mysterious shadow wanted. After all, it had waited this long without harming him.
When he turned, the shadow was standing in front of a door. It was a set of double doors at the far end of the corridor. They didn't look like the entrance to a room so much as an emergency exit.
More importantly, Jiang Cheng didn't remember there being a door there.
To be precise, his memory of that end of the corridor was blurry, as though something were preventing him from recalling its layout.
Three clear scratches marked the door.
The shadow stood motionless, its body indistinct and its face blurred, just as before. But this time, its face wasn't turned directly toward him. It was angled slightly to one side.

Their skin was ashen, and milky-white eyeballs were set in their eye sockets, staring straight past him. Their venomous glare seemed capable of boring holes into his back.
