Jiang Cheng was left speechless. It took him a good while to recover. "Don't change the subject. I'm talking about something serious. We can't let the man downstairs stay. I'll try to persuade him to spend the night at this inn, then when Liu Dabao and the others arrive tonight, we'll..."
"Kill him?" The Fatty's eyelid twitched.
"There's no need to kill him. That would only cause a huge commotion. I'll have Liu Dabao take him away too, out of Luo'an City. As long as he leaves, he won't pose a threat to us anymore. We can just compensate him with some silver." Jiang Cheng was still patient enough to explain it all to the Fatty. Even he felt that his temper had improved a lot lately.
After agreeing on what to say, they went downstairs, only to find the table where they had been sitting completely empty. The man selling roasted sweet potatoes had vanished.
"Did he run off?"
They immediately hurried outside, but when they stepped out of the inn, they saw the man still dutifully minding his stall, calling out to customers and selling the sweet potatoes in his brazier. The tense look on his face was gone, replaced by his earlier expression. Beneath his melon-shaped cap was a face full of ingratiating smiles, as though... as though nothing had happened.
As soon as he saw Jiang Cheng and the Fatty approach, the man came over with a smile. "Oh, you two have finished eating? Would you like a few more to take home for your family to try?"
At those words, Jiang Cheng and the Fatty both felt a sense of déjà vu. Those were exactly the words the man had said the last time they came to his stall.
"You don't remember us?" The Fatty
