Jiang Cheng's voice suddenly rang out. Tang Qisheng froze, then jerked his head away. He hadn't even realized that he'd briefly lost focus.
He took the painting off the wall and laid it on the table. To be safe, Tang Qisheng—having already learned his lesson—picked up a scrap of cloth from the floor and covered Xiuling's eyes.
Sure enough, the feeling of being watched vanished. Tang Qisheng was both frightened and excited. The painting really was strange, which proved that their investigation was on the right track.
As an artist himself, Jiang Cheng had first been drawn to the painting's composition and brushwork. The artist was highly skilled, often using just a few strokes to capture the desired details. It was no exaggeration to say that in the dim light, the painting could easily be mistaken for a photograph.
He absentmindedly ran his fingers over the painting and frowned. The paper was much rougher than he'd expected, and surprisingly thick. Curious, he turned it over. The next moment, he and Tang Qisheng both froze. There was another painting on the back!
