Water Lord wiped the green blood from the corner of his mouth, spat hard on the ground, and glared at the chairman, who had appeared before him. "Damn you. I nearly fell for your scheme..."
The chairman hovered in midair and sneered. "You old fool, why would I need to scheme to deal with just you? You think far too highly of yourself. If that guy hadn't interfered last time, you'd have died without a place to be buried!"
Jiang Cheng and the others were still concealed among layer upon layer of vines. They could only peer outside through a narrow gap. From the conversation between the two, it was clear that the grudge from years ago wasn't as simple as Water Lord had claimed. It seemed he had only escaped because he'd had a powerful ally.
"Enough talk. The Gateway has been destroyed. Today is the day you die!"
Water Lord roared and leaned forward, as if preparing to unleash a devastating move. Meanwhile, Wu had quietly vanished.
A mass of black mist appeared faintly behind the chairman. Then Wu suddenly emerged, not wielding a knife but turning his hand into a claw and reaching for the chairman's back.
The claw struck with tremendous force. If it landed, it looked like it would at least inflict serious injuries.
But in the next instant, the chairman—whose attention seemed to be fixed on Water Lord—twisted around without warning, dodging the attack at an angle no human could possibly manage. And that wasn't all. As he turned, he seized Wu's wrist with one hand. Black energy surged from his other hand as he struck at Wu's chest. Desperate cries rang out from within the dark energy, and indistinct faces twisted in agony.
"Crap..."
The Fatty's heart clenched. It seemed the chairman's combat
