Everyone still breathing, except for special cases like the Fatty, had figured it out. Water Lord immediately sent vines twisting toward Shao Tong.
Sure enough, as soon as Water Lord attacked, the puppets seemed to receive the same command and quickly converged on Shao Tong. Two of them, the closest to Water Lord, tore his vines apart with brute force.
That confirmed Jiang Cheng's guess. Everyone quickly switched targets. The president, hovering in midair, tried to turn back and rescue Shao Tong, but Wu gave him no chance and swiftly engaged him.
With no other choice, the president sent the black mist of human faces to protect Shao Tong. But without the mist to shield him, he couldn't gain the upper hand against Wu. In fact, his distraction gave Wu an opening to close in with his blade. A surging tide of layered sword flashes drove the president back again and again.
The black mist formed a circle around Shao Tong, like an upside-down bowl covering him. Shao Tong still seemed dazed, as if he hadn't yet come to his senses or understood what was happening.
From what the president had said, Shao Tong knew nothing about the whole affair. He was only a tool being used, and had even fought the president for control of their body. That was what had exposed the president in the first place. In that sense, Shao Tong hadn't done anything obviously wrong. But the situation was dire, and Jiang Cheng and the others were no saints. They couldn't afford to worry about that now.
