Their feet squelched through the pool of blood, the sound grating on everyone's already taut nerves. The Fatty held his breath, still worried that something might suddenly leap out of the fog ahead. But even when they could see the driver's seat, the surroundings remained quiet.
They hadn't seen a single living thing along the way. There were no bodies on the bus, and not even the slightest sound.
Wu raised a hand, signaling everyone to stop. He continued forward alone. Wu Yingying took Jiang Cheng's hand and pulled him back, then stood in front of him. Her beautiful eyes seemed to sense something as she stared fixedly ahead, her expression growing grave.
Wu finally reached the driver's seat. Everyone's hearts leaped into their throats, because... because the trail of blood beneath their feet, dragged along in broken streaks, led all the way to the driver's seat.
Time seemed to lose all meaning. After an unknown amount of time, Wu turned and nodded to Jiang Cheng. Only then did everyone breathe a sigh of relief.
Wu Yingying wanted to go forward with Jiang Cheng, but he wouldn't let her. The Fatty, Huai Yi, and the others could barely protect themselves, so Wu Yingying needed to stay behind and guard them.
Jiang Cheng went forward alone. At Wu's instruction, he stood beside him and followed his gaze. A thick layer of fog shrouded the driver's seat, churning incessantly, its depths frighteningly dark.
Jiang Cheng was already very close to the driver's seat, barely over a meter away, yet he couldn't shake the feeling that the real driver's seat was still far off. Inside... there seemed to be another space.
Wu gave a slight wave of his hand, and the fog before them thinned a little. At last, Jiang Cheng saw it.
