Hurrying out of the Scripture Library with the Fatty, Jiang Cheng found a secluded spot and opened his phone to check the video.
In principle, Jiang Cheng didn't believe what the monks had said. Everything about Chijie Temple, from top to bottom, seemed off.
As the video began playing, Jiang Cheng and the Fatty's expressions slowly changed. Jiang Cheng had already prepared himself to see something truly terrifying.
Perhaps several hideous evil spirits would be wearing monk's robes, or maybe the video would have captured nothing at all, because those ghostly things were hiding on the ceiling or somewhere like that. But the result surprised him.
The Scripture Library was just that: a library of scriptures. Tall wooden shelves lined both sides of the building, piled high with sutras. Not far behind them, several monks sat cross-legged.
The lighting and angle made the footage somewhat unclear, but they could still see the monks' heads bowed. The incense candles burning nearby happened to illuminate half of their faces.
They were all elderly, their faces extraordinarily gaunt. If not for their hands striking the wooden fish, Jiang Cheng might have suspected they were already dead.
But what really caught his attention were the monks' eye sockets.
They had no eyes, just like the old monk outside. Their sockets were empty. The elderly monk in the middle sat with his back to them, his mouth opening and closing. The voice came from him.
Clearly, this old monk was the abbot of Chijie Temple.
"Are they really all blind?" The Fatty stared at the screen. Even through it, he could sense the monks' calm and serenity—a state of mind that was exceedingly rare.
